The Tier System
Our biggest goal at Domhantir is to help our members develop as writers. To do that most effectively, we want to make sure we're giving you useful feedback--not stuff you already know, but also not stuff you won't know how to use yet. Also, it's always nice to have some measure to help you know you're improving.
Therefore, we've created the Tier System. This does two things:
1) It helps staff tailor feedback to your current skill level
2) It helps you, the member, mark your progress as you build your storytelling prowess.
That said, always keep in mind--the Tier System is not perfect. Categorizing artistic talent is a very funky thing to try to do, so all we can do is do our best. The Tier levels are very broad (there's only three of them), and each contains a wide spectrum of skill levels. Please don't lose sleep over your placement. If you feel like you've been placed in the wrong Tier--well, maybe you have. The system is inherently subjective, so there's certainly that possibility. But! That's why we've made it so easy to have your skill level reevaluated and to move up in Tier, and we've made sure that Tier levels are used only for the two reasons listed above--there are no boards on the forum open only to members of certain Tiers.
The Tiers
The Tier Levels are as follows:
Now. Please remember, your Tier placement is not restrictive or permanent. There are no areas available only to those of a certain tier, and you will have every opportunity to raise your placement (check out the Auditioning Tutorial).

The Tiers
The Tier Levels are as follows:
- Tier I: Initiate
You've begun! Writers at this tier are starting to play with characterization and plot development; they are experimenting with what makes a story worth telling. They might still be struggling with grammar and spelling basics or plot and character stereotypes, but they're on their way. - Tier II: Crafter
This tier is certainly the biggest--most people will hang out here. Crafters have gotten the hang of good plot design and character development. Their characters show more thought, more depth, than standard archetypes. Their plots are engaging and keep readers wanting more. Writers at this tier might still struggle with grammar and such, but if they do, their overall theory is top-notch. - Tier III: Artisan
Artisan writers display a solid mastery of grammar, even into its more advanced nuances. They take plot and character development to the next level. Their stories are thought-provoking, their characters dynamic, surprising, and yet personally familiar. Artisans use higher-level storytelling techniques to create memorable work.
