Welcome to Domhantir! This thread gives a quick run-down of what Domhantir is and what it looks like--it will give some details, and links to more in-depth descriptions of how we operate. If you have any questions, feel free to PM me or one of our other admins: Fvarithvaieyri, Tydus, or Andunare. (If you need help, see "How to Send a Personal Message" in our Technicals Tutorial.) Do enjoy, and we'll hope to see you on the boards!

Who We AreHere at Domhantir, you can expect to find: - High school students
- College students
- Authors
- Poets
- Essay writers
- ...and many, many more.
And we all have one thing in common: we love to write. What We DoDo you fit into any of the above categories? Then you'll be right at home here. The idea behind Domhantir is to provide a creative and fun environment for young writers where we can write, experiment, and receive constructive criticism on our work. Our mission is to help our members hone their craft and become better storytellers in a fun, collaborative environment. During the school season, our community shares the burden of Academia by giving each other feedback on essays, papers, and other schoolwork. What You'll Find HereSound interesting? Here are some of the different venues you can find within the Realm: - The World of Domhantir
One of our creative venues. The World forums feature the literary "Role-Play" style of collaborative writing in which each contributing author writes from the point of view of a single character. The story is written in blocks, with each contributor furthering the plotline by posting his or her respective character's thoughts and actions. The RP style is a very fun exercise in character and spontaneous plot development.
The World itself has been developed by an assortment of admins and members alike--it is a fantasy realm consisting of a series of island nations, some large, some small, and a wide array of peoples and races to provide the settings for your adventures.
- Collaboratives
Another fun outlet for our fiction writers. Collaboratives are an advanced form of the classic round-the-circle storytelling game, where each consecutive participant adds the next sentence to the story, and the plot progresses into all kinds of crazy places as the cycle goes on and on. Here, of course, the game is not quite so madlibed. Contributors add not sentences, but scenes or chapters to the story on their turn. Some collaboratives are left completely open to the public and allow anyone to post the next installment; others are closed or limited, requiring signups before contributions can be made.
Collaboratives are a good project for building versatility--the ability to further a plot in an exciting and engaging way without the benefit of being able to structure the story from the beginning.
- The Workshop
The Workshop is where our members post anything and everything they have written (or otherwise created) outside of Domhantir. Poems, historical fiction shorts, science-fiction sketches, oil paintings--anything and everything is welcome in the Workshop. Once added to our library, members receive feedback and constructive criticism on their pieces to help them improve.
The Workshop is where the individual skill of our members is showcased--where we take what we've learned and apply it to our own independent work.
- The Almanac
Are you a world-builder? The Almanac is for you! This is our compendium of all knowledge about the fantasy realm of Domhantir. On the Almanac Submission board, members can post articles on new races, new places, new myths, new species of plants and animals--and much more. Once approved, their creations are added to the Almanac for others to use in their RP-style endeavors.
The Almanac is a terrific venue for fantasy and sci-fi writers especially who are looking for practice in world-building and creating depth of setting.
- The Resistance
This section of the board is designed specifically for high school and college students. Within the Resistance, you can post drafts of that big humanities paper and get feedback from members and staff to help you with the revision process. Additionally, the Resistance features discussion boards where you can pose questions about any and all school subjects from Math to Physics to Philosophy, so if that latest concept has you stumped, drop by--one of our members or staff probably has the answer you need!
Finally, the Resistance is constantly collecting a library of articles on all things academic--tips on writing a 5-Star essay, college-application pointers, and even words of wisdom for the SAT. If you're a high school student, a college student, or just a student of life, the Realm is the place for you!
