The Centaurs
Overview
Appearance: Standard Greek mythos, yes? Human torso, horse body starting at the waist. Coloring varies, though skin tone is almost always lighter, especially in Talambrian herds. A few Sradan herds have much darker skin. Horse portions vary in terms of coloring and “breed,” though deep black Arabian-esque bodies are by far the most dominant. Size is generally the same as the average horse—plus the human portion, of course.
Aging: Early childhood development in centaurs is severely accelerated compared to the human equivalent. Infants are often walking within moments of their birth, and sexual maturity is reached around age 10 or 12. Centaur “prime” lasts longer than it does for humans—the horsefolk are not viewed as “old” until they reach their late eighties. Average life expectancy is between 100 and 110 years.
Abilities: Centaurs have no innate magical abilities, though they have equine strength, speed, and endurance.
Territory: Centaurs are native to Talambar, but thanks to the Talambrian slave trade, they have been scattered all over the world. No free herds remain in Talambar (though rumors of a single remaining free herd circulate every now and again), but some have migrated to Srada.
Domestication: Centaurs are very popular slaves in Talambar, both for domestic use and gladiatorial entertainment. A number of large slave-stables specifically for the horsefolk exist in Caermarn. Very few free centaurs exist, apart from the few Sradan herds.
