The mentor program: is that still going? What does it mean? And can you ask for both?

Ballo:

Question 1: You don't have to, but if you ask for feedback, you will receive suggestions to help you improve your writing and will most likely get a better score when you do submit a piece for points. :)

Question 2: Yes, I believe it is still going. There are several people who have asked for mentors, but so far only one person (myself) has volunteered to be a mentor...The point of a mentor would be someone who would answer your questions and focus on giving feedback for your writing. You may go ahead and post on the mentor thread asking for one, if you would like, but I'm not sure if anyone is available right now. But you are always welcome to ask.

Oh! And if you have a mentor, other people can still give you feedback. :P It wasn't meant to be a restrictive thing.

Could I apply to be a mentor? Or am I still too new to do that?

Is the mentor program still going? I am a fledgeling (obviously) and don't have much experience in writing.... Am I allowed to be mentored while still a fledgeling? If not, I can wait till my audition is finished. I took the liberty of posting my request to be mentored on the Apprenticeship board, but I don't know whether that is allowed. Question mark.

:P The apprenticeship program keeps coming up...sounds like something we should put more time into! You're totally free to apply, Nienna. I'll dash over there now.

Sorry for the delay, Tyr! We're running a little short on auditioners right now, so we're shuffling staff members around to get you and Giselle covered. A moderator will have a thread started for you on the Auditions board within a day. Thanks for your patience!

Hey, Nienna!

You can read more about earning and spending points in the Points Tutorial, but here's the gist of it:

You can get points by:
  • Requesting scores for completed stories. This is totally optional, but once you've finished a piece, you can post a score request here. A judge will rate your piece using our Rubric, and convert that score into points which will be added to your account.

  • Feedbacking! Just about all feedback you post in the Workshop's Feedback board will earn you points. The more specific and in-depth your feedback is, the more it will earn!

  • Contests! We're always giving out prizes to folks who enter our contests, and if you win, you get a bonus prize to boot! Check out the Contests board in the Workshop. I know there are currently several Challenges open for entries.

Let me know if you have any more questions! :)
